The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam, is set to close the registration window for NEET UG 2025 counselling today, July 29. Eligible students seeking admission to MBBS and BDS courses under the state quota must complete their registration on the official DME Assam portal — dme.assam.gov.in — before midnight.

Assam NEET UG 2025 Counselling Registration Ends Today

The NEET UG counselling process in Assam is a crucial step for thousands of aspirants who have qualified the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and aim to pursue medical education in the state’s government medical colleges. This counselling process ensures a fair and transparent allocation of seats based on the candidates’ NEET rank, category, and preferred choices.

Choice Filling to Begin on July 30

As per the official counselling schedule released by DME Assam, the next stage — the choice filling process — will commence on July 30 and will remain open until August 2. During this period, registered candidates can log in to their accounts and submit their preferences for colleges and courses. Students can opt for as many choices as they wish, and it is advised that they make selections based on their rank, academic interest, and future goals.

A DME official stated, “The choice filling phase is critical. Candidates must be cautious and realistic while locking their preferences. They should also refer to previous year cut-offs to better understand which colleges they are likely to get.”

Seat Allotment Result on August 6

Once the choice filling window is closed, the DME will evaluate applications and allot seats based on NEET UG 2025 scores and the candidate’s listed preferences. The seat allotment results for the first round of counselling are expected to be announced on August 6. Candidates who are allotted a seat must download the allotment letter and report to the respective college within the stipulated time with original documents for verification and admission formalities.

Counselling Structure: Four Rounds Including Mop-Up

The Assam NEET 2025 counselling will be conducted in four rounds, including a mop-up round to fill any vacant or leftover seats. The counselling is applicable only for students applying under the 85% state quota. The remaining 15% All India Quota seats will be filled through the centralized counselling process conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

The tentative structure is as follows:

  1. Round 1: Registration, choice filling, seat allotment
  2. Round 2: For those not allotted or not satisfied with Round 1 seat
  3. Round 3: Fresh choice filling for vacant seats
  4. Mop-up Round: Final opportunity for admission to unfilled seats

Seat Availability in Assam

According to the Assam Health and Family Welfare Department, the state currently offers 1,550 MBBS seats across 13 government medical colleges. This number reflects the significant expansion in medical education infrastructure in recent years, with several new institutions established under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for upgrading district hospitals to medical colleges.

In addition to MBBS, BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) seats are also available through this counselling process, although the exact number for dental seats in Assam was not specified in the official statement.

Nationally, NEET UG 2025 has facilitated access to approximately 1,08,940 MBBS seats across India, covering both government and private institutions. Assam contributes a growing share to this number, offering increasing opportunities for aspiring doctors in the region.

Counselling Fee Structure

Candidates participating in the Assam NEET UG 2025 counselling are required to pay a non-refundable counselling fee of ₹500, applicable for reserved category candidates. The fee payment is a mandatory step during registration and must be completed online through secure payment gateways integrated into the counselling portal.

Students from general or unreserved categories may have a different fee structure, and are advised to check the DME website for updated details.

Candidates appearing for counselling will be required to upload or submit the following documents during registration and physical reporting stages:
