On Tuesday, 24th May, a local court in Assam’s Chirang district sentenced ten people to life in jail in connection with a 21-year-old witch-hunting case.

Witch-hunting case; Two out of 12 already died earlier
According to reports, the 12 accused persons murdered three people in 2001 on suspicion of practicing witchcraft.
Moreover, two people of the 12 accused in the witch-hunting case had already died.

“When case no 120/2001 was filed in Bijni police station, the Bijni court was part of the Bongaigaon district at the time, and the case was relocated here in 2018.”
Hearings and witness interviews began in 2018, and the court issued its final decision today.
Ten defendants have been sentenced to life in prison by the court. The accused killed three people, including a woman, on suspicion of practicing witchcraft,” said Additional Public Prosecutor Prabin Debroy to news agency sources.
