Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked Assam Police to report an FIR for spreading fake news purportedly issued on his Twitter account.

The tweet

The Assam Chief Minister wrote, “A FAKE tweet bearing my name is circulating saying that since cases of #COVID19 has gone up and schools & colleges are being closed down from Nov 20. This is WRONG & should not be heeded to. Stay off misinformation and fake news! I am advising @assampolice to take note and act.”

“AS per covid-19 cases are increasing in Assam very fast. On 31st October it crossed 300+ positive cases. So the Education department and the government decided to close school’s and the college’s from 20th November.” the message reads.

Guwahati Police replies to the tweet

Guwahati Police replying to the tweet said, that the case is being taken up at Crime Branch, Guwahati. 

The screenshot of the tweet was widely circulated on WhatsApp and other social media handles. 

Also previously, in the name of Assam Chief Minister fake news went viral about the non-opening of schools.
