As per the data of the Union Health Ministry on December 7, India logged 6,822 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in 558 days, taking the country’s tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,46,48,383, while the active cases declined to 95,014.
In order to prevent the new COVID variant to affect the populace in the state, the Meghalaya Government has issued a new set of guidelines and mandating it to be followed by each and every individual entering the State. The one who visits Meghalaya will have to register with the government website and download the Arogya Setu app and the Behavioural Change Management app.
As stated by an official on December 7, the new guidelines were issued after the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was detected in some of the states.
Will the existing vaccines be effective enough?
WHO states that it is much unlikely and a matter to fear that the existing vaccines would work on Omicron.
The World Health Organization’s second-in-command said that while a lot remained to be learned about the new, heavily mutated variant of COVID-19, preliminary data indicated it did not make people sicker than Delta and other strains.
During an interview, WHO’s emergencies director Michael Ryan stated that “The preliminary data doesn’t indicate that this is more severe. In fact, if anything, the direction is towards less severity.”
