Bhabesh Kalita, the head of the Assam State BJP, stated on 25th May that people should move towards modern education and that Madrasas in the state should be closed down.
Kalita told the media, that religious teachings in Madrasas need to be replaced by scientific or general education.
In addition, he continued to say, “In Madrasas, there is no science or math.”

The state BJP president went on to say that the world is changing at a rapid pace and that people must abandon old outdated educational methods in favor of new science-based ones.

Moreover, Kalita was responding to a statement made earlier by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Sarma said that Madrasas should not exist in India and that all Muslims in the country were previously Hindus.
He asserted that due to their “Hindu background,” Muslim youngsters are intelligent.
