Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam on January 7, announced that Schools in the State will remain closed for students of upto Class 5 across the state as part of the new COVID-19 restrictions.

About the order:

As per the order schools for upto Class 8 students have been ordered to be shut-down in the state capital Guwahati to safeguard primary class students. The order will be implemented from January 8, 2022. At the same time, school closures for primary class students will remain in force until the end of the month, that is January 30, 2022. The order will be applicable to both Government as well as Private Schools in the state.

The decision has been taken by CM Sarma,  citing the spike in the number of COVID-19 cases throughout the country. To clear any misinformation and avoid any confusion, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma himself took upon the mantle to announce the decision in a press conference where he said, “All schools up to class 5 will be closed down in the entire Assam up to January 30. In Guwahati, schools will be closed up to Class 8.”
