In honour of the iconic cartoon character Nobita from the Japanese animation series Doraemon, a new dinosaur footprint fossil found in China last year has been called “Eubrontes Nobitai.”
The fossil was discovered in Sichuan, China’s southwestern region, in July 2020.
Xing Lida, associate professor at the China University of Geosciences in Beijing, commented on the choice to name the fossil after the cartoon character, saying that the Doraemon dinosaur movies were “wonderful” and were a part of many people’s childhood memories in China.
The dinosaur fossil has been recognized as being related to a new species of carnivorous dinosaur Eubrontes in the Cretaceous.
